ROCK-N-ROLL Baby Shower Cake

Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails, That's what little boys are made of.

"A Heart Full of Love"
A wee bit of heaven
drifted from above.
A handful of happiness,
a heart full of Love.

Welcome Baby - Will he be a Rock Star?
Come Let me Rock you Gently
 (Ode to a rocking Chair)

Come let me rock you gently
and as we softly sway
I'll share with you a story
and rock your cares away.

In the years that I have known
there has been much that I've seen.
The big "to do's", the nothing days
and all those in between.

To all I've offered comfort
and a quiet place to rest
I've rocked my share of little ones
(oh, how I love them best!).

 A very tender memory
of all of those I hold
is one of love and caring
that now is growing old.

A Grandma with a little boy
placed firmly on her knee
would for hours sit and play
and we would rock so free!

 The laughter in their voices
(to which I'd add a creak!)
would fill my day with pleasure
and with pure joy I'd squeak!

Oh how I loved the songs
they sang and the games they played
and all the stories told
when they were all so young.

Now as our time is winding down
 (it's nearly at an end!)
I bid you please come back
and sit when you have time to spend.

 Together we will gently sway
and stories will unfold
and I will rock your cares away
as each new one is told.

CIRCUS - Happy Birthday Ian

The circus is coming to town
Here they come
They're back in town
It's the greatest show around
There are clowns- jugglers too
There's so much to see and do
The lions roar- elephants dance
Nothing could ever be so grand!
Don't be left behind
They're startin' right on time
Cause the circus is coming to town

I started this cake with a theme & drawings

The making of the Circus Tent - "The Big Top"

The Gumpaste Circus Tent comes to life
A  gumpaste Lion, Seal, and a Magic Hat were created.
The lion and the seal are on a pedestal.
The magic hat has a white rabbit in it holding balloons.
Each piece was cut out & pieced together using edible glue.
Each piece is about 2 1/2 inches tall.

An edible marker was used to make the claws on the lion

The seal balancing a beach ball

Edible markers were used to put details on the balloons

Multicolored pendants were made into a banner. The pendants were made out of gumpaste and a rope to hold the pendants was made using icing. The banner says "Happy Birthday" and the birthday boy's name is on the flag of the tent. The cake is a multicolored marble cake with buttercream icing. Fondant clouds were added to the blue sky to give it that look of a great day to go to the circus.

The finished cake with all of the trimmings. . . . Enjoy!!!

"Take me out to the Circus"

Take me out to the circus
Take me out for the show
Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks
I don't care if I ever get back
Cause it's clap, clap, clap for the jugglers
and laugh, laugh, laugh for the clowns
For it's one, two, three rings of fun at the Old Big Top.

SPRING SHOWERS

This cake was made to celebrate the beginning of Spring.
This Winter has been a long and hard one for many people.
Rain, sleet, ice, hail and lots and lots of snow.
It's finally Spring. Everyone do a happy dance!!!

Flowers growing, streams are flowing
There are many things to do in Spring
There's lots and lots of sights to see
Spring has begun, lets have some fun

First homemade fondant and gumpaste were colored and flavored.  I used a cutter for the bunny rabbits and butterfly, a punch for the flowers and hand cut the umbrella shape.

This is a 10" square spiced apple cake. It has a layer of caramel and a layer of buttercream icing for the filling. It is iced with homemade buttercream.

This is a close-up view to show the flowers on the sides.

Springs in the air
A Spring is in my steps
I do so want to make it last.
April showers bring May flowers
will they last, one can only guess.
A reason, a season and a rhyme
Spring is here lets have a grand time!!!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day

Once again we are celebrating Saint Patrick's Day:

Every year on March 17, the Irish (& Irish-at-heart) across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.

History: Saint Patrick, who lived during the 5th century, is the patron saint & national apostle of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped & brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later escaped, but returned to Ireland & was credited with bringing Christianity to its people. In the centuries following Patrick’s death (believed to have been on March 17, 461), the mythology surrounding his life became ever more ingrained in the Irish culture: Perhaps the most well known legend is that he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) using the 3 leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.

This cake started by finding a design & making a plan.  I then started making the fondant and gumpaste trim pieces for the cake. Each piece was dyed to the specific colors, hand cut, shaped & glued with edible glue.

The Leprechaun

The cupcakes were made with sky blue icing. The tops of flavored candy canes were stuck in the icing to form rainbows. I added dollops of white icing to look like clouds.

Rainbow in the sky cupcakes

This cake is green of course for Saint Patrick's day. The filling is made with a layer of crushed pineapple and a layer of icing. Fondant and gumpaste trim pieces are added to the sides and top. Frosted with buttercream icing and sprinkles on the edge.

A picture of the side of the cake to show the shamrocks & rainbows.

The finished products - Happy St. Patrick's Day

Handmade Leprechaun for the top. He looks very happy with his pot of gold.

A slice to show the color - Yummy!!!

The Leprechaun:

Leprechaun legends date back to 8th-century legends of water spirits called "luchorpán," meaning small body. These sprites eventually merged with a mischievous household fairy said to haunt cellars and drink heavily. Other researchers say the word leprechaun may be derived from the Irish leath bhrogan, meaning shoemaker. Indeed, though leprechauns are often associated with riches and gold, in folklore their main vocation is anything but glamorous: they are humble cobblers, or shoemakers. Shoe making is apparently a lucrative business in the fairy world, since each leprechaun is said to have his own pot of gold, which can often be found at the end of a rainbow.

Marilyn Monroe Birthday Cake

This is a 21st birthday cake.
The request was for a pink velvet cake with chocolate covered strawberries. It was mentioned that the birthday girl likes Marilyn Monroe & could I incorporate that into the order.

It all starts with an idea, a plan, rough draft of the cake & sketches of the decorations.
All of these decorations are hand made.
Pink & White Chocolate Covered Strawberries.
Homemade Fondant Accents; lips, lipstick, shoe, CHANEL No 5 perfume bottle & pearl necklace.

Lipstick, Lips & a Spiked High Heel Shoe
CHANEL No 5 is Marilyn Monroe's favorite perfume
Hand Dipped Chocolate Covered Strawberries. So Yummy!!!

Side View - to show the placement of the CHANEL No 5 & Lips
The cake has a strawberry cream cheese filling & butter cream icing.

The final results - I bet Marilyn would have loved this one.

41& Fabulous

Happy Birthday Nikki!

They say that the 40's are the new 20's. It does not matter if we are single, married, mother, or grandmother; age is all in the mind. Your birthday is a celebration of you. Celebrate & enjoy!

Here are a few quotes on aging:

"Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." ~ Mark Twain

"The older the fiddler, the sweeter the tune." ~ English Proverb

"Old age is fifteen years older than I am." ~ Oliver Wendell Holmes

"The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age." ~ Lucille Ball

"I believe in loyalty. When a woman reaches an age she likes, she should stick with it." ~ Eva Gabor

I started this cake by making homemade marshmallow fondant a few days prior to making the actual cake. I made some of it into gum paste and colored it with gel food coloring.

Tap-it letter cutters were used to make the appropriate letters

I brushed the letters with a food paintbrush dipped in vegetable shortening to take off all of the powdered sugar. The letters can be used right away, or you can let them set to stiffen up so they are easier to handle.

Then I created handmade gumpaste roses in two colors

The green star shapes are the calyx's for the back of the roses.
They are glued into place with edible glue.

This is a 10" two layer Lemon flavored cake using a fresh squeezed lemon & lemon zest. It has a strawberry chunk cream cheese filling with a layer of lemon curd for that additional lemony flavor. I make a icing damn to keep in the filling, so it does not all ooze out down the sides (That could get very messy, LOL).

Then comes the fun part; Icing & decorating the cake.

A celebration of being fabulous
ENJOY!!!!!!

"Sing a song of Birthdays
Full of fun and Cheer.
And may you keep on having them
For many a happy years." ~ Anonymous
